Washington, DC — New America announced that David J. Kilcullen will be an Arizona State University Future of War Senior Fellow, and that Peter W. Singer will serve as Strategist and Senior Fellow.

“New America has long had a cutting edge program in international security, with a particular focus on South Asia, counterterrorism, and new military technologies,” said Anne-Marie Slaughter, President of New America. “The addition of David Kilcullen and Peter Singer make us a formidable intellectual force on a broad range of national security issues. I could not be more delighted to have them."

As an ASU Future of War Senior Fellow, Dr. Kilcullen will contribute to the Future of War project and write a book on insurgencies.

“I am honored and delighted to be working with New America, a truly innovative group with one of the strongest future of warfare programs in the world,” said Kilcullen. “I am looking forward to working with the team to explore the future of American and global security.”

“David Killcullen is one of the world’s leading authorities on insurgencies and counterinsurgencies. His work is informed by his extraordinary combination of skills as an anthropologist, former army officer, counterinsurgency adviser, and adept writer,” said Peter Bergen, New America Vice President and Director of the International Security and Future of War programs. “We are thrilled that he is joining New America and helping us think through our Future of War project.”

As Strategist and Senior Fellow, Dr. Singer will advise on organizational strategy and opportunities and play a leading role in the institution’s national security work.

“I am delighted to be joining New America and its focus on new ideas to address the next generation of challenges facing the United States,” said Singer.

“Peter Singer has been at the forefront of thinking and writing deeply about the new world of warfare in the 21st century, from private contractors, to drones, and to cyber-attacks,” said Bergen. “He is a stellar addition to the New America community.”
