As eminent Australian military strategist David Kilcullen has pointed out in The Weekend Australian, Mr Obama cannot ignore the reality that his strategy is failing. Other commentators have argued it is time for the US leader to end his “anything for a quiet life” approach to the Islamic State challenge. Dr Kilcullen, with vast experience as a warfare specialist in Iraq, is not convinced, however, that the campaign can be salvaged.
