The Geography of Smart

You’re invited to a conversation with Amanda Ripley and special guests to celebrate the release of The Smartest Kids in the World—and How They Got That Way.

In a handful of nations, virtually all children are learning to make complex arguments and solve problems they’ve never seen before, according to an international test of critical thinking. These kids are learning to think, in other words, and to thrive in the modern economy.

How did these countries get so smart? What is it like to be a kid there? To find out, journalist Amanda Ripley followed three American teenagers who spent one year living in Finland, South Korea and Poland--meeting their friends, their teachers and their host parents, and learning from their stories, along with groundbreaking research into education worldwide.

Join the New America Foundation and Hager Sharp for a conversation on what the rest of us can learn from the world’s education superpowers.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase with cash or check. Drinks and light refreshments will be served.

This event is made possible by the generous support of Hager Sharp.
