2022 Students and Technology Report: Rebalancing the Student Experience

Survey
Oct. 2022
Sample Size: 820
Demographics: undergraduate students
Topics: Learning Student Support

Top Findings:

  • More than three-quarters (77%) of respondents reported having experienced one or more technology issues within the past academic year (i.e., 2021–22).
  • In comparison to pre-pandemic data about course modality preferences, students are now expressing stronger preferences for modalities that are mostly or completely online. In fact, the percentage of respondents indicating that they prefer mostly or completely online courses increased more than three-fold from 9% in 2020 to 29% this year.
  • Device access is a complex issue - while 94% of respondents to this year's survey indicated that they can access their primary device anytime they want to, and 95% of respondents indicated that they own their primary device, less respondents with a disability (52%) or housing instability (44%) were able to choose their personally preferred primary device.
  • Almost a third (30%) of respondents indicated that completing a degree is the most important measure of success for their undergraduate experience. However, a degree is not the only measure of success. Other respondents indicated that their most important measure of success is to secure a job, achieve personal growth, secure a high salary, or meet another goal.
