After launching in 2011 on a federal level, startup PopVox is now using Tennessee as its first beta test on the state level.
"The initial concept for PopVox was just to have a place where people can find out about the bills that are pending in Congress; they can create an account and share their input on those bills," co-founder Marci Harris said.
And on the lawmakers' side, using the platform means they can be sure that the person providing feedback is real and only weighing in one time per issue, she said.
The neutral, nonpartisan civic engagement platform allows users to see what stakeholders think of the issues and to write more informed messages to lawmakers.
All the inputs are aggregated by district.
