How to Support Homeownership in the Future

A long time ago, in a land far, far away (Friday, February 5th to be exact, the morning before DC started to look like Hoth), the Asset Building Program held an event featuring Alyssa Katz, the author of "Our Lot: How Real Estate Came to Own Us."

The event featured a discussion with the author and Ellen Seidman, who offered a summary of the book and an analysis of how housing policy in the past 30 years contributed to the overheated market of recent years and contributed significantly to the Great Recession of 2008-2009. Due to the storm, many of those interested in attending were unable to do so, and they missed out on a fascinating discussion about both the history of the housing market and the future, including issues like the role of shared equity housing, the mortgage interest tax deduction, the future of overstocked areas and the power of neighborhood support systems.

Fortunately, anyone interested in listening to the discussion can watch the video on the event page, or by clicking on the "related video" at the right.
