Boston University's Center for Finance, Law, & Policy Now Managing Global Financial Inclusion Guide

Today, Boston University's Center for Finance, Law & Policy announced that it will assume responsibility for the Global Financial Inclusion Guide. Formerly known as the Financial Inclusion Regulation Center run by CGAP, the Guide is now the only centralized database of banking laws and regulations for developing countries. While CGAP shifts to an advisory role, the Guide will continue to compile information on laws and regulations related to banking, microfinance, consumer protection, and branchless banking.

As such, the Guide's core mission will remain similar to that of SPINNAKER - providing policymakers, financial service providers, and researchers, among others, with the tools to expand financial access to unbanked populations around the globe. However, the Center will work toward this goal with two major changes, both of which are particularly interesting here at SPINNAKER. First, as the Center develops additional materials, resources, and projects to help foster better understanding of financial inclusion laws and regulations it will also work with other parties to identify and analyze policy issues and emerging trends in the financial inclusion space.

Second, the BU Center believes the Guide should be an industry built resource developed through open dialogue, collaboration, and insights from experts on the ground. It is their hope (and ours!) that this will lead to better knowledge sharing, products, services, and policies.
