It’s been more than a year since the federal government announced plans to end its oversight role of ICANN’s Internet Assigned Numbers Authority, but there’s still a lot of misunderstanding around what that means. The Open Technology Institute on Thursday released the first in a series of reports to help policymakers and the public understand the IANA functions and, in their view, why it’s important to transition from government oversight to the multi-stakeholder community.
